Azumaya Takashi appointed director of Busan Biennale

The Busan Biennale has appointed Japanese curator Azumaya Takashi artistic director of the 2010 biennale. A designated team within the organizing committee selected Azumaya was from among 147 Korean and international candidates. Azumaya is the first non-Korean national appointed to the position.

Azumaya is an independent curator hailed for his experimental approach to exhibitions. He holds an MFA in painting from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and has held curatorial posts at the Setagaya Museum and Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. He was commissioner of Media_City Seoul 2002 and guest curator for the 2008 Busan Biennale.
