Fashion designer and artist Hussein Chalayan’s first solo exhibition in Japan is currently underway at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. Born in Cyprus in 1970 and resident in the UK, Chalayan is known for his conceptual design practice that incorporates a broad range of knowledge and technology, including LEDs and laser beams. In his role as an artist he participated the 2005 Venice Biennale and here in Japan in the Space for Your Future exhibition, also held at MOT. His current show presents 24 works including key pieces from his fashion collections over the past 15 years ‘modeled’ on mobile mannequins, works on video and installations.
