Each year since 1999, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo has selected a theme reflecting contemporary society around which they organize their MOT Annual group exhibition introducing young artists. This year, marking its tenth edition, the Annual explores a theme hardly limited to contemporary art – ornamentalism – presently the works of 10 artists working across multiple genres. Participating artists include Yamamoto Motoi, who creates intricate site-specific labyrinths using salt, Shioyasu Tomoko, known for her large-scale cut-paper works, and the architect and designer Tokolo Asao, best known for his mathematically generated patterns.
