Due to its historical background, Vietnamese culture is still highly controlled, but not a young artists working with digital media are on the rise. Another segment of the Japan Foundation’s Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2009, Flickers presents multi facets of Japanese media art. Along with an exhibition by artist Minami Takao who has conducted research and created work in Vietnam and Cambodia, the event includes a talk among the artist, curator Hashimoto Azusa and Vietnamese video artist Tran Luong; a lecture by media artist Kuwakubo Ryota and Hara Hisako (Professor, Osaka Electro-Communication University); and a workshop for art students.
