KOH-JUTSU

2 – 7 April
Spiral Garden (Omotesando)

Kanno Sakan HUNCH-1000190.mephisto 2009 (detail)

An exhibition showcasing – and taking as its theme – some of the distinctive technical skills peculiar to Japanese artists. Curated by Radi-um art gallery director Ikeuchi Tsutomu, whose questioning of whether Japanese ‘technique’ tends to be underrated in comparison to concept and sensibility by Westerns art standards, formed the basis for the exhibition. Koh-Jutsu reexamines the value and possibilities of minute and delicate forms of expression cultivated through training. The exhibition features 24 works by 12 artists/units including Aoki Katsuyo, who works in ceramics, and Suda Yoshihiro, who carves delicate hyper-realistic flowers and weeds out of wood, along with Aruga Seiji, Uchiumi Satoshi, Kan-no Sakan, and Kuwajima Hideki.
