Labyrinth (detail)    2005   Salt    4 x 8.5 m
Installation view at Gallery Sowaka, Kyoto, Japan

Salt, one of the basic elements of life, is a symbol of purification in many cultures. Japanese artist Yamamoto Motoi began working with salt as his exclusive material 15 years ago after the death of his sister. For his first solo show in France the artist will present a salt installation from his Labyrinth series on the gallery floor along with ‘salt paintings’ on aluminum and drawings on wood. Ephemeral, the snow-like landscape, transforms with humidity.
