Indonesian Contemporary Self Portraits

6.18 – 30
Sigiarts (Jakarta)

An exhibition of leading Indonesian artists who make themselves the subjects of their works. Participating artists include Agus Suwage, who uses himself as a motif peppered with humor to satirize political and religious views; Budi Kustarto, an emerging artist in the process of shifting from sculpture to two-dimensional expression; and FX Harsono, whose refined works have shown in Japan from early on in his career. In Indonesia, where group shows with innocuous titles are often the guise for an assemblage of works to market, this exhibition shines for its spot on choice of artists to match the theme, and for its substantial content.
