Jagannath Panda: The Action of Nowhere

11.27 – 1.15
Alexia Goethe Gallery (London)

The Action of Nowhere II    2009
Acrylic, fabric, glue on canvas with plywood   137 x 167 cm

An exhibition of new works by the New Delhi-based artist Jagannath Panda. At the Mori Art Museum’s Chalo! India, Panda presented a giant peacock and works incorporating richly patterned fabrics. Here he continues to explore the binaries of nature/culture, urban/rural, traditional/contemporary and figuration/abstraction, with his trademark textiles appearing here and there in the works. His new paintings envision the scenes of car crashes… Or perhaps they speak of the destruction of nature? Or the breakdown of the products of civilization returning us to nature in its essential form?
