Originally commissioned as part of the Australian presentation at the 2007 Venice Biennale, Callum Morton’s Valhalla will be shown in Australia for the first time as a segment of the Melbourne International Arts Festival. The artist rebuilt his childhood home at three-quarter scale. In stark contrast to its ruined exterior, visitors enter a pristine corporate-style, marble-clad elevator vestibule, which emanates sounds when the call button is pushed…. Morton creates a complex interplay of narratives, drawing on Hollywood movies, recent world events and his own past.
