Kikai’s second solo exhibition in the United States is a trip down to Sensoji Temple in Tokyo’s Asakusa entertainment district revealed in a series of photographs of passers-by he has taken since 1973. These fleeting encounters, shot in black and white using only natural light, are the flip side of his other major body of work: the Tokyo Labyrinth cityscapes. (Olivia Hampton )
