Asia Society (New York)
The first US museum showing of Yang Fudong’s masterly Seven Intellectuals in a Bamboo Forest, a five-part black-and-white video referencing the legendary Seven Sages, a group of third-century Chinese intellectuals who distanced themselves from government service to take up an existence of Taoist-inspired reflection and heavy drinking in the countryside. The sages’ rebellion is the subject of a companion exhibition at Asia Society. (Olivia Hampton)
