Cai Guo-Qiang: Hanging Out in the Museum

The largest retrospective of the artist’s work to be organized since his solo show at the Guggenheim in 2008. Hanging Out in the Museum features 35 works, including three new works created specially for this exhibition; large-scale installations, gunpowder drawings, and video documentation of his explosion projects that reflect concepts derived from Eastern philosophy and modern cosmology. Over the past two years Cai also acted as director of visual effects for the opening and closing ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics and staged a solo show at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art of works taking as their themes war and peace, loss and regeneration.
