Iza Genzken represented Germany at the 2007 Venice Biennale with Oil and her concurrent outdoor installation for the Münster Sculpture Project involving dolls was a talking point of the festival. Born in Germany in 1948 and based in Berlin, Genzken explores the relationship between sculpture and architecture and heightens the viewer’s awareness of their relationship to the exhibition space in her assemblages, installations and collages. Her first solo show in Japan is an installation from her Oil series featuring two astronaut mannequins and 32 aluminum panels.
