Venice Biennale appoints artistic director for 2011

The Venice Biennale has announced that Bice Curiger, a curator at Kunsthaus Zurich as well as co-founder and editor-in-chief of Parkett magazine, will be the artistic director of 2011’s 54th Venice Biennale. A graduate of the University of Zurich, Curiger is also editorial director of Tate Etc, published by London’s Tate Gallery.

The Biennale’s national pavilions are also gearing up for 2011. On May 23, Istanbul-based curator and ART iT columnist Vasif Kortun was announced as curator of the UAE Pavilion. Other pavilions have already selected their artists. Notably, Christian Boltanksi will represent France in an exhibition curated by Jean-Hubert Martin, Mike Nelson will represent Great Britain, Sigalit Landau will represent Israel and Michael Parekowhai will represent New Zealand, which returns to the international extravaganza after skipping the 2009 edition.
