Lyon Biennial appoints curator for 2011 edition

Buenos Aires-based independent curator Victoria Noorthoorn has been appointed curator for the 2011 Lyon Biennial, it was announced June 24. Noorthorn has been active primarily in the Americas, serving as projects coordinator of the international program at the Museum of Modern Art and assistant curator of contemporary exhibitions at the Drawing Center, both in New York, before assuming the role of curator at the Malba-Fundación Constantini in Buenos Aires. Since going independent, she has organized projects in cities including Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Cali and Porto Alegre. Previous experiences organizing large-scale international art festivals include the 29th Pontevedra Art Biennial (2006) in Spain and the 7th Mercosul Biennial (2009) in Brazil. At Lyon, Noorthorn follows in the footsteps of San Francisco-based curator Hou Hanru, who directed the 2009 edition. Noorthoorn’s 11th edition is scheduled to run September 15 to December 31, 2011.
