Pulse art fair expands to LA

Amid rumors circulating of Art Basel’s possible “collaboration” with the Art HK art fair, American trade shows continue looking west, not east. The upstart Pulse franchise, which already operates events in New York and Miami, has just announced that it will join the line-up of market players staking claims in Los Angeles. Although no participants have been announced, Pulse Los Angeles expects to accommodate around 65 galleries, and will be located at the Event Deck at LA Live.

The fair is timed to coincide with the September 30 launch of Art Platform – Los Angeles, a new venture by the Merchandise Mart corporation that organizes events including the Armory Show in New York and Art Chicago, as well as the opening of the city-wide survey of postwar Los Angeles art spearheaded by the Getty Foundation, “Pacific Standard Time.” Pulse Los Angeles and Art Platform – Los Angeles join the fair Art Los Angeles Contemporary as the latest entries to the Los Angeles scene. Last held Jan 27-30 of this year, Art Los Angeles Contemporary was established in 2010 and currently includes notable local dealers such as 1301PE, Honor Fraser, David Kordansky, LM Projects and Patrick Painter.
