On May 30, Italy’s first national museum for contemporary art opened in Rome. Known as MAXXI, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts was designed by Zaha Hadid, the Iraq-born, London-based Pritzker Prize-winning architect. Opening programs included the unveiling of MAXXI’s permanent collection exhibit, addressing the theme “Spazio” (Space), and a solo exhibition for Turkish media artist Kutlug Ataman.
