A Happy New Year to Everyone!
We will be closed for winter break from January 5 to March 16.
The first exhibition of the spring season will open on March 17.
◆ Selections from the Hara Museum Collection with a Focus on Recent Acquisitions (tentative title)
[Dates: 3/17 (Sat) to 6/24 (Sun) Venue: Contemporary art galleries]
This exhibition places a spotlight on artworks recently added to the more than 1,000 items in the Hara Museum Collection, including works by Tokihiro Sato, Hiroe Saeki and others. These will be on view with selected works by such artists as Yayoi Kusama and Tabaimo within the tranquil space of the three contemporary art galleries.
◆ Masterpieces from the Hara Rokuro Collection (tentative title)
[Dates: 3/17 (Sat) to 5/30 (Sun); Venue: Kaikan Pavilion]
The masterworks selected for this exhibition comprise the core of the Hara Rokuro Collection of East Asian Tradition Art. These include Tiger in a bamboo glove (a painting originally used as fusuma at the Nikko-in of the Mi’idera temple) by Kano Eitoku; Liezi riding the wind, a hanging scroll by Sesson Shukei in which the flowing movements of a floating man and his robe are exquisitely depicted with masterful brush strokes; and rare fragments of ancient calligraphy from Reiso-dai, a book of model handwriting. By displaying these works with selected items of contemporary art, this exhibition creates a world where visitors can experience expressions and forms of beauty that transcend time and space.
