From The Museum Shop at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art
Today we would like to introduce a new product “Air Luggage” now available at The Museum Shop.
Air Luggage ¥2,800 (tax included)
The person behind the Air Luggage is the artist Yasuhiro Suzuki, who has been working on making air “perceivable,” beginning with his air-filled figure made in 2007. With Air Luggage, the air we take for granted becomes something different, something unique that can be enjoyed in the moment.
There are various ways to enjoy this luggage.
Fill the luggage up with air and carry the air with you.
Fill the luggage up with air on your special day to commemorate the day.
Insert leaves or tickets that you have collected into the side pocket to create a frame around the air.
Go on vacation, fill the luggage up with the local air and take it home as a souvenir.
The products now available at the shop contains air from Tokyo (Komaba) filled by the artist.
The artist’s handwritten concept note on the package: “Let’s fill the luggage up with the world”
Also available at The Museum Shop are “Apple Kendama” and “Tree Tops” designed by Suzuki.
They say Newton discovered gravity when he saw an apple falling. With Suzuki’s kendama, the apple once again allows you to feel the very same force of attraction. This is a great product for people to rediscover this often overlooked force of nature. The more you play with it, the more the scratches make the ball look like a real apple.
Apple Kendama ¥6,825 (tax included)
Tree Tops ¥2,520 (tax included)
Yasuhiro Suzuki also designed the artwork for the 2010 BloomBUS! free shuttle bus which runs between Shinagawa station and the Hara Museum (in service until June 12, 2011).
Here is a message from the artist talking about the concept behind this BloomBUS! design:
I was attracted to the Hara Museum’s distinctive windows, so I put miniature versions of the museum’s windows all over the bus as if to envelope it with them. The parabolic lenses and Fresnel mirrors have the effect of miniaturizing the scenery. And so passengers riding the bus to the museum will see a Shinagawa landscape that has been transformed.
