From Hara Museum, Tokyo
Golden Week (April 29 – May 8) is coming soon! Why not come to the Hara Museum to enjoy art?
The BloomBUS! (artist: Yasuhiro Suzuki) free shuttle bus service sponsored by Bloomberg L.P. is being provided between Shinagawa Station (Takanawa exit) and the Hara Museum every Sunday until June 12 (Sun.), so please take a ride on the bus and visit the museum! *Please note that the bus is not in service on May 1 (Sun.) and 8 (Sun.)
The current Hara Museum Collection show “Be Alive!” presents a selection of works by artists whose dynamic expression has made them the vanguard of contemporary expression during the first decade of the 21st century. What connects these works here is the sense of immediacy, of life and of spirit evoked by the show’s keywords “Be Alive.”
Featured artists:
Noe Aoki, Nobuyoshi Araki, Zhang Huan, Izumi Kato, William Kentridge, Yoshitomo Nara, Kohei Nawa, Pipilotti Rist, Tabaimo, Kouichi Tabata, Mickalene Thomas, Miwa Yanagi
*Approximately 30 works ranging from painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation are displayed (on display in Galleries II to V). Please click here for details.

Also on view in Gallery I is a special project “Mickalene Thomas—Mama Bush: One of a Kind Two”
featuring works by Mickalene Thomas (born in 1971), who has become widely known for her portrait paintings of African-American women done in vivid colors and rhinestones. The project was first conceived of after the museum acquired the painting “Mama Bush: One of a Kind Two” (2009), which features the artist’s mother as the model.
