From Hara Museum ARC (Gunma)
Tabaimo “midnight sea” 2006/2008
Exhibition title: COSMOS: Selections from the Hara Museum Collection
Place: Contemporary Art Galleries at Hara Museum ARC
Here is the news on our upcoming exhibition at Hara Museum ARC Contemporary Art Galleries.
*Please note that Hara Museum ARC is currently closed and will open from March 26 (Sat.).
Where in lies the source of human thought, feeling and will?
It is the cosmos that acts as the ordering principle behind all things in the world, not the cosmos that comprise the study of astronomy or the physicality of outer space. In the Western perspective, the universe is divided into the macro-cosmos and the micro-cosmos. In the East, the word “cosmos” consists of the Chinese characters for “space” and “time,” i.e., “space-time.” This exhibition features works with a breadth and depth to provoke our thoughts about the larger space in which we exist and act and the smaller space that is contained within us. Shigeo Toya and Tabaimo incorporate the earth and sea into their images. Jonathan Borofsky digs deep into the inner psyche and emotions. Hiroshi Sugimoto directs his gaze at religion as a symbol of spiritual activity. We invite you to enjoy these and other diverse expressions of the cosmos.
