Hara Museum ARC will be holding a two-day workshop called “Ossu! Shugeibu” (see http://blog.goo.ne.jp/ossu-syugeibu/ for further reference).
“Ossu! Shugeibu” is a group of seven good-looking guys led by the bucho (club leader) Shoichi Ishizawa who turn unique ideas into handcrafted goods. In 2008, Ishizawa held a two-day workshop at the Hara Museum in Tokyo. In this workshop, you will make a robogurumi (robot + nuigurumi, Japanese for “stuffed toy”) by turning an impassive robot dog into a cute stuffed dog or unidentified creature. Afterwards, you can take him (or her) for a walk and participate in the robogurumi race.

Ossu! Shugeibu
Formed in December 2003 by male members with no knowledge of sewing. Always full of energy, they (mostly in their forties) are continuously developing innovative sewing techniques and have produced a number of legendary works. Shoichi Ishizawa
Reprentative member of Ossu! Shigeibu
Ishizawa designs for the fashion unit Ultra Tama. His activities range from the design and development of clothing, stationary and interior goods to the teaching of tea ceremony (Urasenke school).

Dates: August 7 (Sat.) , 8 (Sun.), 2010 10:30 am -1:00 pm/ 2:00- 4:30 pm (twice a day)
Place: Hara Museum ARC (2855-1, Kanai, Shibukawa, Gunma 377-0027)
Fee: 2,500 yen (workshop fee) + museum admission (general (over 12) 1,000 yen/children (over 3) 500 yen) *Museum admission is free for Hara Museum members.
Participants will be able to enjoy ongoing exhibitions at ARC.
* Your robogurumi is yours to take home. Materials will be provided, but if you want to use your favorite cloth material, feel free to bring some from home.
Reservations: Required. Please send us the names of the participants and contact telephone number in an e-mail (arc@haramuseum.or.jp) or by telephone (Tel: 0279-24-6585). Registration will be closed when the number of participants reaches 40.
Participants: All ages from elementary school to adult (children aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by an adult), limited to 40 participants per workshop (on a first come, first serve basis).
