Take Ninagawa is pleased to announce Danh Vo’s participation in “Wunderkammer to Come: From the Uncompleted, a Beginning” at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, Aichi.

The exhibition explores contemporary approaches to the Wunderkammer. Alongside his marble sculpture Take My Breath Away (2017) and letter project 2.2.1861 (2009 –), Vo is presenting untitled (2023), a new mixed-media installation incorporating photographs of cut flowers taken at a shop owned by a family of German-Vietnamese florists.

The photographs in untitled (2023) are accompanied by Phung Vo’s calligraphy identifying the Latin genus and species of each plant according to the 17th-century binomial system. The photographs are framed in black walnut, which was gifted to Vo by Craig McNamara, his friend and owner of Sierra Orchards in Northern California. McNamara’s father, Robert McNamara, was a principal architect of the American War in Vietnam.

Concurrent to the exhibition in Toyota, Vo will also be holding a solo exhibition of new works at Take Ninagawa in Tokyo, opening February 17.
