Take Ninagawa is pleased to announce its Wunderkammer presentation at Art Basel 2021, also available through its synchronous Online Viewing Room, OVR: Basel.
The gallery will feature a solo exhibition by Gozo Yoshimasu. Launched in the wake of the Tohoku earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster of 2011, “Dear Monster” comprises mixed-media manuscripts composed through the obsessive enumeration of characters and words that have been repeatedly broken up and rearranged into new units of meaning and nonmeaning. Commemorating those who lost their lives in the disaster, the series turns the destruction of language into a creative engine. Eleven works from “Dear Monster” will be presented alongside audio recordings of Yoshimasu reading his manuscripts.
The Wunderkammer will be hosted by Galerie Jocelyn Wolff, our friend gallery from Paris. Jocelyn Wolff’s group exhibition will feature Franz Erhard Walther’s manifesto-like artwork Zufallsbilder alongside a selection of very new or never exhibited works by other gallery artists.
