Take Ninagawa is pleased to present Andro Wekua‘s first solo exhibition in Asia, Drift Angle. The exhibition will feature new paintings and a recent sculptural installation.

Born in 1977 in Sukhumi, Georgia, and now based in Berlin, Wekua makes works that combine figurative and abstract or formal elements with a dramatic sense of color, material, and surface. His haunting visions of distorted everyday scenes are informed by fragments of personal memory and allusions to broader social and political contexts. His work is held in important international collections including the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo; Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Wekua was previously shown in Asia in the 8th Gwangju Biennale, “10,000 Lives,” curated by Massimiliano Gioni in 2010.
