[Reception & Artist’s Talk: Saturday, October 5, 5:00–7:00 pm]
Gallery Koyanagi presents the solo exhibition of Tabaimo “afterwards” from Saturday, October 5 to Saturday, November 16, 2024. Because in recent years Tabaimo has been focusing on stage production, it was refreshing for her to experience once again the awe of her drawings and things being animated, through the creation of two works this year; the work from “ONE SINGLE BOOK” with Gallery Koyanagi and “Touch on an Absence” the immersive video installation at Warehouse TERRADA. This show will be an occasion for her to look back at her 25 years of activities by tracing the train of thoughts in order to go back to her starting point.
These things that were conceived, designed, manufactured, purchased and used by somebody other than myself, existed in Time that had nothing to do with me, before they arrived to be in my possession.
The animation work that can be said as the proof of my related Time, that I tried to release from the spell of my intentions.
Both of them I, the present self, caught.
And then, afterwards.
Tabaimo
Tabaimo has always been creating intricate and ironical works. But while producing new works she felt, the moment when things and phenomena suddenly connected, and the starting point of an idea itself to be intriguing and that it had a potential to expand. So Tabaimo arranged various objects she had on hand and projected fragments of her animations, to create a work that presented the relationships that arose from the sudden encounter of objects. In this exhibition she tried out a new attempt, by deliberately and playfully leaving room for misunderstandings, to create a space where viewers could engage in a range of thoughts and feelings. The discoveries and unexpected misinterpretations that emerge between the viewer and the artwork would hopefully begin to weave new stories, afterwards.
On the first day of the show Saturday, October 5, an opening reception will be held from 5 pm, with the presence of the artist at the gallery. The Artist Talk will be held from 6 pm, so please join us on this occasion.
