Take Ninagawa is pleased to announce Aki Sasamoto‘s participation in Aichi Triennale 2022, “STILL ALIVE,” featuring her newest performance/installation Squirrel Ways: Thickness of Borders (2022). Sasamoto produced a previous iteration of the work during her residency at Atelier Calder, in Saché, France, in early 2021.
Resembling a stage set, the installation incorporates shoji panels, doors, and shutters that at first appear functional and yet contain odd and inexplicable details. In giving physical form to the concept of accessibility, these passageways expose our perceptions of inside and outside and subvert the symbolism of entry and exit. Sasamoto will perform Squirrel Ways: Thickness of Borders at the Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya during the Triennale’s opening weekend on July 30 and 31.
The artistic director of Aichi Triennale 2022 is Mami Kataoka, director of the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. The Triennale is being held at multiple venues across Aichi Prefecture.
