Simon Fujiwara wins 2010 Cartier Award

British-Japanese artist Simon Fujiwara is the winner of the 2010 Cartier Award, it has been announced. Organized in conjunction with the annual Frieze Art Fair, London, the competitive award recognizes emerging artists living outside the UK, providing the winner 10,000 GBP to produce a new work for the fair’s Frieze Projects section. Based in Berlin and Mexico City, Fujiwara is known for forensic-style installations in which carefully arranged artifacts build into a lifelike, yet fictional scenario. He has also written an erotic novel set in Franco-era Spain, Welcome to the Hotel Munber.
