RMB City is the virtual city built by one of China’s most visible artists, Cao Fei, on the online virtual-reality platform Second Life. Now the city whose growth we observed in the artist’s solo exhibition last year at Shiseido Gallery is about to turn one. The milestone will be celebrated with a special gathering in the City’s brand new People’s Marketplace. Scheduled events include appearances of the artist’s avatar China Tracy and the newborn China Sun at the bazaar, a dance performance, and the inauguration of the City’s third mayor, Erica Dubach, aka E3a Digital, who will announce the new ‘RMB City Code’ project.
