After declaring itself the International City of Crafts in 1995 and organizing various subsequent related activities, Kanazawa has launched the First International Triennale of Kogei (craft). Under the directorship of Akimoto Yuji (Director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa), the triennial’s first edition takes as its theme ‘Network Crafting’ and features approximately 200 works by 46 East Asian artists/units. It is an experiment in presenting contemporary craft works and creative practices that make use of ‘crafting’ techniques from the perspective of crossing or intersecting the disciplines of architecture, design and contemporary art.
