Taka Ishii Gallery’s annual solo exhibition held to coincide with the photographer’s birthday (May 25th). Approaching his seventh decade of living, Araki presents a series of new works taken with a medium-format camera documenting his beloved cat Chiro, who passed in March, and the Eros (life/sexuality) of ‘Women’ the likes of Lady Gaga, actresses, performers and wives. The show also includes images of the sky shot from the photographer’s balcony, which formed the basso continuo of his 2THESKY, my Ender exhibition in December 2009. If his previous exhibition reflected his new lease on life after experiencing a brush with death, this exhibition, while more restrained in tone, reveals the next phase of his ongoing quest to push the boundaries of ‘Arakism’.
