Where is Architecture?

Seven Installations by Japanese Architects
29 April – 8 August
Museum of Modern Art Tokyo (Takebashi)

Ito Toyo, Study model for installation

Shedding light on the creative process of a discipline built on solving problems posed by myriad pre-conditions, Where is Architecture? features new installations by seven Japanese architects/units representing multiple generations. Head of the new generation of Japanese architects Nakayama Hideyuki presents an installation based on his grand-prize-winning ‘Door on the Prairie’ proposal for the Tea House Competition, and Atelier Bow-Wow, taking inspiration from MOMAT’s Takebashi (lit. bamboo bridge) location, fills the Museum’s front garden with animal-shaped monuments made of bamboo. The other participating architects are Ito Toyo, Suzuki Ryoji, Naito Hiroshi, Kikuchi Hiroshi and Nakamura Ryuji. In conjunction with the exhibition, MOMAT has created a special ‘Work in Process’ website presenting the conceptual/production processes leading up to the works in exhibition.
