An exhibition featuring the results of the MCJP’s second artist-in-residence program. Miyanaga Aiko, who turns her attention to the state of flux in which all things exist, is best known for making works using materials such as naphthalene, salt and ceramics that transform subtly with the passing of time. Inspired by the world ‘double’ in the title of this exhibition, she proposes a journey in time linking two points, creating naphthalene replicas of old objects – engraved with time and memories – she found at a flea market in Paris.

Sekine Naoko, who using lead pencil and eraser only generates infinite tones between black and white, layers delicate lines to give rise to – as opposed to depicting – ‘landscapes’. In addition to pencil drawings, for this exhibition she applied white acrylics directly to a glass wall of the gallery to create a site-specific work superimposing on the landscape beyond the glass the impressions she derived from that landscape.
