Born in 1950 in Eindhoven, Henk Visch is now one of Holland’s leading contemporary artists, although it wasn’t until he was 30 years old, after cleaving his way through ideas of becoming a conductor, an actor and an architect among others, that he began to pursue his career as an artist in earnest. He is best known for his bulbous sculptures of human figures, tinctured with a dry sense of humor. His 2006 solo show at the Moriyama House in Tokyo made dramatic use of the entire residence designed by architect Nishizawa Ryue. In addition to sculptures composed of single and multiple figures, his current exhibition also shows more recent developments in his practice in the form of rhythmical, geometric metal ‘drawings in space’ and a series of new works on paper.
