Hara X mama!milk Concerts in the morning, through twilight, and at night [Hara Museum, Tokyo]

[Hara X] — A series of events presented by the Hara Museum featuring various artists whose performance of music, dance or other types of expression will be streamed online from some place within the museum, each time according to the performer’s choice.

On this autumn day, mama!milk will hold three concerts at the Hara Museum in Tokyo: one in the morning, one at twilight, and one at night. At the museum, where many contemporary artists and visitors have been welcomed over the years, the music of an accordion, flute and contrabass will resonate through its halls and galleries, and together with the changing light of day, be streamed to you over the Internet.

mama!milk

A unit consisting of accordion player Yuko Ikoma and contrabass player Kosuke Shimizu, two artists who focus on memory in music through composition and live performance. In addition to albums produced in recent years in a variety of styles, they have given site-specific performances at a variety of venues informed by local history and culture, including the ruins of a monastery in Matera, Italy, a museum in Pamplona, Spain, on the surface of a moat in Saijo, Ehime, a stable in Tallinn, Estonia, Hozen’in in Kyoto and the Kyoto Cultural Foundation. They have given three well-received, intimate concerts at the Hara Museum: Two Suites in Autumn (2019), mama!milk Duologue (2013) and Fragrance of Notes (2008).

Yuko Ikoma, Accordion
An accordion player since childhood, Ikoma is familiar with stepping organs and toy instruments. She is frequent organizer of freewheeling ensembles, releases albums under the names of “mama!milk” and “Yuko Ikoma” and often composes soundtracks for works of art and other musical pieces as part of residential art projects. She played a hand-wound music box as a part of a performance by the esquisse quartet at the Hara Museum.

Daiho Soga, Flute, Tape-recorder, Etc.
Soga is a musician who plays a variety of instruments such as the flute, harmonica, Cavaquinho, keyboard instruments, toy instruments, and tape recorders. He is the leader of the music group CINEMA dub MONKS which gives live performances with a strong narrative bent in Japan and abroad. He formed Circo de Sastre in 2014 and manages all production aspects for the group.

Kosuke Shimizu, Contrabass
Shimizu provides accompaniment for many bands as he freely moves between various areas, from experimental music and improvisation to dance and theater. In addition to playing with mama!milk, in recent years, he has collaborated in other projects as a contrabass player as well. At present, he is secretly producing a solo album together with multi-instrument player Soho Daiho and pianist Masaki Hayashi.
