Take Ninagawa is pleased to announce its participation in the inaugural edition of Frieze Seoul.

At the fair, the gallery is presenting a group exhibition of historic and recent works by gallery artists Ryoko AokiKazuko MiyamotoShinro OhtakeAki Sasamoto, and Danh Vo. The artists span multiple generations and contexts.

Their works will be put in dynamic relation with each other, with the string constructions of New York–based Miyamoto (b. 1942), who has reinvented Minimal and Conceptual practices through feminist criticality, engaging in conversation with a multicomponent installation by Vo (b. 1975), the Vietnamese-Danish artist who uses tactics of appropriation, alteration, and modular recombination to critique global flows of commodities, labor, and power across history. Vo’s work in turn resonates with the practice of Ohtake (b. 1955), whose assemblages of printed matter, found photographs, and ephemera such as packaging and direct-mail solicitations comment on the production of time and memory in contemporary life. Similarly, the Kyoto-based Aoki (b. 1973) creates salon-style installations of drawings and fabric works that traverse multiple regimes of representation, from doodles and manga to nature studies, and trigger different modes of association. Anchoring the presentation is a new media work by New York–based Sasamoto (b. 1980), included in the main exhibition of this year’s Venice Biennale, who delivers digressive spoken narratives while performing acts of physical contortion.
