The Royal Institute of British Architects awarded its Stirling Prize 2009 to Richard Rogers for his cancer care sanctuary, Maggie’s Centre. Perhaps best known for his functionalistic works featuring exposed duckwork and staircases (Rogers collaborated with Renzo Piano on the design of the Pompidou Centre), Rogers was also the winner of the coveted Pritzker Prize in 2007.
