Through stimulation of our various sensory organs, we perceive the things of the outer world as meaningful objects. This exhibition features works culled primarily from the collection of the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art that were created to jolt the viewer’s physical senses and thereby awaken new understanding. The exhibiting artists who open these ‘doors of perception’ are Olafur Eliasson, Odani Motohiko, Kusama Yayoi, Sugimoto Hiroshi, Nakahara Kodai, Ernest Neto, Carsten Höller, and Miki Tomio.
Aichi Art no Mori: The Doors of Perception II, a related program to take place also at TMMA and two other venues in the city, opens on 20 February.
