An exhibition focusing on new figurative painting from the mid-1990s to present that showcases the vibrant activities of mostly a younger generation of Japanese artists. Garden of Painting brings together some 200 works by 28 artists including Aida Makoto, Aoki Ryoko, Akiyoshi Futo, Ikeda Mitsuhiro, Kusama Yayoi, Nara Yoshitomo, Machida Kumi, and Murase Kyoko. Their tremendously varied approaches display a sense of liberation and facility of being freed from the limiting context of Western art history and traditional tableau.
