Take Ninagawa is pleased to announce Taro Izumi’s solo exhibition Sit, Down. Sit Down Please, Sphinx., opening at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery January 18, 2023, and continuing through March 26.
Izumi has held large-scale solo exhibitions at such major international venues as Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2017) and Museum Tinguely in Basel (2020). Often produced through intentionally complex and absurd processes, his multifaceted artworks do not fall under any single category. For his first institutional solo exhibition in Tokyo, Izumi is unveiling a perpetual motion machine for confronting the unknowable through the overlaying of experiences like cosplay, camping, and entombment with thought processes involving such diverse keywords as burial mound, imperial mausoleum, strike, rewilding, feigned illness, and manning and hooding in falconry.
