About ART iT
ART iT (www.art-it.asia) is a Japanese-English bilingual contemporary art portal site consisting of four main sections: Magazine, ArtBlogs, ArtPartners, and an SNS service. By registering - at no charge - users can obtain maximum enjoyment from the whole site, with even greater convenience. Packed with the kind of cutting edge contemporary art talk art lovers have come to expect from ART iT, and loads of handy features, art-it.asia offers communication and inspiration for those who produce, promote and just plain adore art.
Content/features
Magazine
Offering a comprehensive range of content focusing primarily on contemporary art in Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region, including the latest news, exhibition info and search feature, artist interviews and videos. The visually oriented quarterly ART iT magazine launched in October 2003 has now moved entirely online to this website, and will provide ongoing updates on trends in the ever-changing art scene.
Register with art-it.asia and you'll also gain access to content available exclusively to members. This means for example gain online access to a rich archive of ART iT print-edition pages. Membership also entitles you to go on the mailing list for the editors' e-zine, and enter prize draws on the site.
* For system-related reasons, on-line perusal of back issues of the ART iT print edition will be temporarily unavailable.
ArtBlogs
A cluster of official blogs penned by key members of the contemporary art fraternity including artists, curators, critics, dealers and collectors. An easy, fun way to catch the latest news and views direct from movers and shakers of the contemporary art scene.

In this section, key contemporary art organizations and events including museums, galleries, art fairs and educational institutions join with art-it.asia to supply the latest news on what's happening in Asia-Pacific art, including updates on new exhibitions, and their latest activities.
SNS
Our SNS (social networking site) is a community format website accessed via a membership system. It can be used to socialize with existing friends and acquaintances, or to form new friendships. Members can supply news and communicate through blogs, and gather information of interest easily by joining communities associated with their favorite art, and making new friends. Includes a range of handy tools such as email for members, plus scheduling and map features.
The site is also equipped with an automated translation system designed specifically for Japanese-English bilingual websites, with input in blogs etc. from one language version able to be automatically translated into the other. Users can also input their own translated texts.
The basic features of the ART iT SNS service are as follows.
1 Blog feature
Use the art-it.asia SNS to create a blog, and readers can post comments on the content. The comments field is optional. There is also a feature that sends an email notification if a comment has been written on your blog.
2 Community feature
The ART iT SNS has a community feature that allows you to enjoy communicating with likeminded people of similar interests and concerns. You can also submit topics that you would like to raise, swap information, and upload a community schedule for members to view. There are two types of community: those that anyone can join, and those that require the administrator's approval. For those requiring approval from the administrator, the administrator can view the profiles of people wanting to join and decide whether they will be permitted to do so. Closed communities for friends only can also be set up.
3 Keyword bookmark
Record any topics of note or things of interest as keyword bookmarks and any articles containing those keywords will be displayed on your personal page from the most recent, allowing you to keep up to date with the latest information at all times.
4 Album feature
Create your very own online photo album to display and view. Visitors can also post comments on your photos using an optional comment function. Albums consist of two types of page: Albums Top and My Album Top. Albums Top allows access to all album data on the SNS. Go to My Album Top to create and manage your own album.
5 Map feature
The Map feature in the magazine can be used to find information on places of interest such as museums and galleries on online maps, however on the SNS it can also be used for individual member information or as a place for members to swap information. There are two types of map: Combo Map and My Map. Combo Map is available as a shared map for members, while My Map can be used on a day-to-day basis as a personal map accompanying blogs etc.
6 Scheduling
Use this feature to manage your schedule online. All kinds of information can be handled at once, such as your personal diary, friends' birthdays, and events. There are three types of schedule: My Schedule, Community Schedule and Friend Schedule, useful for different purposes.

The ART iT SNS is a user-friendly, peace-of-mind communication site run using a membership system. To enable members to get the most out of ART iT, the site offers a 'My Friends' feature that allows you to introduce friends to the SNS. You can also get to know and further your friendships with 'friends of friends'. The feature could also be used to view the profiles, blogs, albums etc. of others and find members with similar interests and topics to discuss. You can choose to what extent you want to make information available in your profile, blog, community, album, map, schedule etc. entries, making this feature handy when you want to communicate just with your My Friend friends.
8 Greeting feature
Why not send a greeting card with a congratulatory message on a My Friend friend's birthday? Close (two weeks prior) to your friend's birthday you'll receive an email suggesting you send a birthday greeting. Simply type in your message, and an email will be delivered to the person on their birthday with instructions for viewing a greeting card.
9 Trackback feature
'Trackback' is a record left when someone accesses your My Page, to show who's been visiting. Follow the trackback and chances are you'll find a new friend with similar interests.
Mobile edition*
View ART iT on your mobile phone. Use the site anytime, including while out and about, for example if you want to check a map while en route to an exhibition venue, or find out what events are on right now nearby. Naturally SNS features are also available (please note some features not compatible).

There are two ways to become an art-it.asia member.
1) Go to the log-in page and follow the steps for new membership applications.
2) Join after receiving an introductory email from someone already registered.
If you receive an email from an existing member inviting you to join, click on the URL in the message and follow the steps to complete registration.
You will be able to use the site as soon as registration is completed.
