According to galleries in Japan and Asia

This summer, ART iT conducted a survey among Asian contemporary art galleries on the subject of the Asian art market. A total of 110 galleries were surveyed, including 50 in Japan (of which we received responses from 39), 26 in Mainland China (4 responses), 4 in Hong Kong (1 response) 13 in Korea (1 response), 12 in Taiwan (1 response), 4 in India (3 responses), and 1 in Singapore (0 responses). Because the responses we received from Japanese galleries far outnumbered those we received from galleries in other countries, the results are presented separately.

Japanese galleries: On the characteristics of the Asian market

1. From what countries do your buyers hail, and approximately what percent of your current total clientele and sales (individuals + organizations) do they represent?

Percentage of buyers by country (based on responses from 38 galleries)*

Percentage of sales by country (based on responses from 38 galleries)*

*The results were obtained by adding up the responses from each gallery (expressed as a percentage) and dividing this by the number of galleries. Accordingly, they do not accurately represent an absolute value (total number of buyers or total sales).

2. Have you seen an increase in buyers or sales from any countries or regions? If so, please specify.

Countries or regions where there is a rising trend in buyers or sales
(based on responses from 38 galleries)
